VHS or Beta? THE NEW HD

Community,

On the first day of this class (Pods, Blogs and New Media) the topic of media formats currently in circulation arose. The discussion was basically labeled “VHS or Beta” as it referred to the same situation but in modern day times. Of course I am speaking of the ongoing battle between the world’s freshest format candidates, the format being “true” High Definition and the contenders being Toshiba’s High Definition DVD (HD-DVD) and Sony’s Blu-Ray.

Over the past few years these two formats have been bucking heads by way of gaining endorsements and support along the way. As major corporations began to lay their allegiances the two companies tried their best to oust the other.

Today, much to my dismay, I am surprised to say that this battle is finally over. My candidate obliterated.

Before I reveal my allegiances, I will reveal the orchestration of the defeat.
A) Warner Brother Studios
The major Hollywood studio declares format loyalty to Blu-Ray (after supporting both formats)
B) Netflix
The online DVD rental giant observes Warner Bros newly declared allegiance and decides to declare loyalty to the Blu-Ray disc as well (this will include phasing out HD DVDs).
C) Best Buy
Top media based electronics corporation declares loyalty to Blu-Ray by recommending Sony’s format to their customers.
D) Wal-Mart
Department store empire establishes loyalty to Blu-Ray and announces a phase out of all things “HD-DVD” by June of 2008.
E) Microsoft
The massive computer-based corporation announced it’s endorsement for Blu-Ray in January when they said they “could consider supporting Blu-Ray technology for the Xbox 360” which at present, is devoted to playing Toshiba’s HD-DVD format.
F-ailed) TOSHIBA
Creator of HD-Beta caves in and announces that they will are submitting to Sony’s Blu-Ray VHS.

hdtv, blu-ray

As you can tell from these events, my contender was Toshiba’s HD-DVD. Toshiba will most likely release a much larger press release concerning the defeat in the coming week. The main reason I was contending for Toshiba’s format was merely because I already bought into it!

Until next time community,

Map of My Life

This map that I put together features my life as a military brat, from where I was born to where I currently reside, including all physical moves from house to house with exceptions of moving in and out of my dorm room. I have knowledge on every place, but since it starts with me being born, I'm probably going to be able to explain some places better than others. #1-16, 1 being 1987 and 16 being 2008 (i.e. I remember more about higher #s than lower #s)
